Hi everyone! It’s been a long time since my last post! Have been feeling a little uninspired and also mom life has been getting the best of me. But I’m feeling better and also wanted to share a glimpse of what my day looks like as a stay-at-home mom. I’m so thankful for Kristy from Seven Graces to have a link up to have other bloggers to share in this fun post! You guys should check her blog out, by the way, she’s a real mama with great stories, advices, and shares her love for Christ.
Izzy decides to wake up. But mommy and daddy try to snooze in as long as they can. She’s waking up earlier then her “normal” but I guess this is good so she can wake up early when pre-school starts. (But we all know that she’ll change that once school starts)
I lay in bed for another 15 minutes until I finally decide to get up and get Izzy out of bed/crib. It’s not a peaceful early start since she’s screaming and I can hear her through the monitor. This is when I decide “do I want to leave the house today or stay home?”
I decide that we need something different then yogurt in the morning. So I bake breakfast cookies. I remember we have no milk or eggs (mom fail) so I quickly google “eggless cookies” and it came up with the this recipe. Like most recipes, I always tweak it because I think it needs something else or I just don’t have those specific ingredients. Izzy is now on the couch watching Paw Patrols, waiting for breakfast.
Cookies are done and they are delicious (I can share the recipe soon!). I also think “yeah, Izzy needs to have a smoothie and give it to her in this non-toddler-proof cup!” Yeah, Izzy’s a talented toddler, she’s not going to spill that cup! I proceed to eat my breakfast cookie and “enjoy” my coffee.
…and she spills the “smoo-bie”. So I try to scoop as much smoothie in the cup because I just make it for Izzy and didn’t want to waste it! Also, I just washed this slip-cover on the ottoman yesterday and now I have to wash it again…AWESOME! (This poor slip is probably on its last leg. Its been washed once a week lately). It’s okay, it’s laundry day anyways…or I just make it laundry day so I’m not stressing myself out. I put the cup on the counter to pour the smoothie in a toddler-proof cup then…I spill it all over the counter! So no smoothie for Izzy!
After a marathon of Paw Patrol and me organizing my Pinterest account, we head upstairs to play or read books. By this point Izzy is just laying around because she’s so tired and she’s fighting her nap. But we decided to play in her game room. I’m not sure if it’s the “tired mama don’t care” in me but this is the only room where I don’t care if it’s unorganized and not clean. Maybe because I feel like it is a lost cost to keep it clean. I mean, she took a basket of toys and just dumped on the ground! My mantra is “she’s making memories…she’s making memories..”
We head back downstairs to get lunch. I’m also doing double duty and started the laundry (first Izzy’s and then our clothing…yeah, I’m very particular about how I do my laundry). Izzy has a typical lunch of mac n cheese with some veggies and I have a yummy healthy plate of lentils and rice (I usually have this almost everyday. It’s easy to prep for the week and healthy). I then text Joe that we are staying home since I didn’t want to deal with the prep of heading out.
I decide that Izzy needs to nap. She’s acting like a diva and we head up to her room and read books. I place her in her crib and hope that she’ll nap today (like I said, Izzy is not a reliable napper). I continue my laundry chores and monitor Izzy’s sleeping progress…here’s the text between my husband and I:
After texting back and forth with my husband about whether or not I should head out to the store with Izzy and if I want to do any activities (other then TV) and telling him that all I want to do is workout and do some quiet time; I finally decide that we should head to our local shopping center with Izzy. I get her out of bed and I quickly get things to get out the door. We go check the mail and this shows up (oh boy! I’ve got issues with online shopping at Loft).
We made it to the shopping center! First, Carter’s! I find the cutest little outfits for Izzy and I decide to have her try on clothing in the store, because I’m a brave mom! She loves her “school clothes” and decides she doesn’t want to take them off. I’m like “oh, well…what ever keeps her happy.” While I’m looking around, Izzy finds all sorts of cool hiding places to play in! (with a sarcastic tone of course!). This was one of her favorite! She called it “her cave”. Let’s just say she did some timeout while I was trying to narrow down my selections.
Are you exhausted yet? I know I am! Ok, we finally make it to Krogers! We get the milk and eggs and other essentials and finally head back home. By this time Izzy was exhausted and could crash any moment.
OH!!! But wait!! We can’t leave Krogers without doing the “pony ride”! Five minutes later, we head home. Just kidding, Izzy has to give the pony a hug, a kiss, check its tail, ask “what’s that” to every part of the horse. Five more minutes later and bribery of M&Ms, we head home.
Start dinner! Yummy Chicken and Rice Enchilada Casserole! Thank goodness I had a pre-made meal for tonight because I defiantly was not feeling like cooking a meal. Also, I usually meal plan for the entire month and plan for pre-made meals on certain days of the week for days like this (I can also share a post on how I do my meal plans!).
Joe gets home and plays with Izzy while I’m busy getting things ready for dinner (setting the table, getting Izzy dish ready and cooled, getting drinks).
We all sit down a have dinner. Joe and I try to have a discussion while Izzy tries to one up us with her “loud” conversation.
Izzy does FaceTime with her cousin, Christian, and then she asks if we could go to the park. It’s been so long that we have gone to the park because it’s still so hot at that time of day (just for reference, I live in Houston). I’m cleaning dishes and cleaning up any messes in the kitchen. Then fold Izzy’s laundry before I get behind.
Before heading to the park, We hear the news that my Aunt got in a awful car accident and was sent to the hospital via ambulance. I stopped and prayed for her and that everything would be ok. Izzy decided to not take her beloved bicycle and just runs all the way to the park! (Good! Burn some of that energy!!)
Izzy is just having a blast and going a hundred miles an hour! Going down slides and running around. She also makes “sand castles” in the mulch.
We head back home after kicking and screaming from Izzy not wanting to head back home. We head straight to the big tub for a bath! After acting like Shamu from Sea World and splashing water like crazy, we take her out of the bathtub and start her night time routine.
Izzy is in her crib after much convincing that she needed to go potty (she’s not potty trained and refuses to potty) and another story. She quickly falls asleep a few minutes later.
Joe and I pick up around the house; usually Izzy’s toys downstairs in the living room and whatever dishes needed to be cleaned. We sit on the couch and just talk about the day events and also try to keep in contact with my family about my Aunt’s condition.
We move to the bed for some quiet time but get disrupted by phone calls and messages relaying news about my Aunt. (She doing ok, but stayed over night in the hospital for observation)
Start my quiet time and it always feels great to be in the Lord’s word, even if it is at the end of the day.
We finally turn the lights off and say goodnight.
Well, there you have it! This is a typical non-schedule day for us. I never got to workout but that’s ok, I can double up today. That is the crazy part of my new life as a mom, the days are so unpredictable and you really don’t know what you are going to get. I can plan only so much but I know that if I do, it will just go down the toilet! So now I just put together a list of thing I’d like to get done, and if I do, then great! And try not to discourage myself for the things I didn’t get to in the day. There is always tomorrow.
If there is anything else you would love to hear from me (cleaning tips, meal planning, favorite meals, funny stories, fashion/shopping, fitness, etc.), just let me know!
Talk to you soon!
