Hi everyone! I hope your week is going smoothly! Mine has been a bit bumpy at the start but has picked up and finally feel productive! (Yay! Go mom!) Today, I wanted to share a few things that I like to have with us while traveling with Izzy. Traveling with a toddler has, or really a baby, has changed the way that we used to travel! We used to go on road trips without any problems, maybe one stop (depending on how long the destination is) and it was nice and QUIET. (haha!)
Well, now we are a traveling circus with all sorts of gadgets and trinkets to try to keep our little one “calm and relaxed” for a 4+ hour drive! (Ok, calm and relaxed is what we pray for…but it’s more like content) Over many and many road trips with Izzy, I have narrowed down 8 items that we cannot leave the house without and make our drive pleasant and enjoyable…for all of us!!
Skip Hop Zoo Backpack:
This little backpack is great for packing all of Izzy snacks, liquids, and whatever else she needs. I especially like this backpack because it has a front pocket where I place her diapers and wipes, which makes it easy for diaper changes (for now). It also has a side pouch for her water bottle. And bonus, it’s is super cute to carry around and you now get to have a baby-items free purse!
Contigo Water Bottle:
I think I’ve used over a dozen bottles and pretty much Izzy has destroyed them all or they were just a headache to clean. This water bottle is super easy to use (even for a toddler) and easy to clean. (I usually place it in the dishwasher, top rack). And, it makes drinking water fun with the easy pop-up straw!
Munchie Mug Snack Cup:
This little snack up is a LIFE CHANGER! I have searched and searched for a easy to use snack cup that doesn’t pinch or scratch Izzy’s hand when she tries to reach through the plastic top. This snack cup has a fabric top that allows for tiny hands to go through with ease and doesn’t allow for snacks to spill out! GENIUS!
Not just any toys, but car-approved non-million pieces toys. I generally like to have a puzzle type toy like the Hape Go-Fish-Go Magnetic Wooden Toddler Maze Puzzle because it keeps her engaged without having to worry about losing any pieces. They are easy to keep in the car at all times.
Izzy loves to color but carrying around a million markers is crazy! Also, it can get a bit messy since she likes to be “creative” and color everywhere except on the coloring page. So I’ve found out these amazing mess-free color markers from Crayola that are awesome! They allow Izzy to see the colors on the “magic” paper without having the mess of the ink showing up everywhere else. (The down side, loosing those marker lids after she tosses them)
Yes, this one is a no brainer! You pretty much can not go anywhere without bringing snacks for your little one. Something about having a Munchie Mug filled with Goldfish just brightens your little ones mood while you are out. So my favorite go-to snacks are obviously Goldfish, Annie’s Bunny Snacks, Ella’s pouches, Happy Tot’s Organic pouches, Honest Kid’s juice pouches.
Izzy usually has to have her pillow with her at all times with her, it’s comfy and helps her relax. So, we bring it with us whenever we travel, it just makes sense! So if your little one has a security blanket or something that makes them comfy and cozy and helps them relax into a nice nap, bring it!
Ok, so when I was pregnant with Izzy, I was one of those newbie parents that swore up and down that I would never allow my child to watch any cartoons! And that quickly changed and now our little Izzy sits first class in our Pathfinder with TV screen built-in on the back of the headrest. But we try to limit it and only allow for one (maybe two for longer trips) movie. There are a lot of great options for DVD players and monitors, also portible tablets are great alternative too! You can download movies/shows right to their device!
Ok, I think that is all the essentials for traveling with a toddler. Hopefully our next few car trips will go smoothly and no meltdowns! I would like to know if there are other items that are on your must have list for traveling with your little ones! Which ones are fun and helpful during those long car ride?
Have a wonderful day!
